EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)
Wire EDM for Individual Parts and Small Series
With our wire EDM capabilities, we manufacture precision individual parts and small series for toolmaking and industrial applications. Typical components include dies, punches, inserts and other tooling components, but in principle we can machine any electrically conductive material.
Especially for hardened components, the process enables precise contours regardless of material hardness. In addition to straight cuts, tapered and 4-axis contours are also possible.
Precision Contours for Toolmaking
In wire EDM, we generally use multiple cuts to achieve the required accuracy and surface quality. The standard CuZn wire has a diameter of 0.25 mm.
Our particular strength lies in tool components, individual parts and small series of up to around 100 pieces. We also regularly carry out subcontract work for other toolmakers – for example during capacity bottlenecks or for individual tooling components based on 3D data and drawings.
Precision for Tooling Components
- Dies, punches and inserts
- Individual parts and small series
- Straight, tapered and 4-axis contours
- Machining of all electrically conductive materials
- Combination with milling, grinding and other manufacturing processes
Start-Hole EDM and Sinker EDM
With our start-hole EDM machine, we can quickly produce small holes even in already hardened workpieces. Diameters of approximately 0.3 to 2.5 mm are possible.
We use our sinker EDM machine for simpler applications such as reliefs, through-holes and blind holes. We manufacture the required copper electrodes in-house.
Broken Tool Removal
A common application of sinker EDM is the removal of broken taps from high-value workpieces.
The core of the broken tool is eroded away so that the remaining fragments can then be removed. If the workpiece itself was not damaged when the tool broke, it can often be salvaged in this way.
Fully Manufactured Tool Components
If required, we combine wire EDM with additional in-house manufacturing processes. Typical process sequences include CNC milling, heat treatment, surface grinding and wire EDM.
We coordinate additional processes, such as specialised heat and surface treatments, through long-standing partner companies.
Based on your 3D data and drawings, we can therefore provide not only individual EDM operations, but also fully machined tooling components.
